This visual identity is a long overdue reflection of you. As members. As ONA. The look and attitude are bold, bright and badass. It’s an identity built on what nurses and health-care professionals have always had on hand, what they could pick up at the dollar store. It’s inspired by the raw materials, colours and ideas that members have turned into protest ammunition for the last 50 years. It is accessible and inclusive. It is for you to take apart, recreate and turn into signs, placards and posters that will help you stand out in the streets. It is the representation of the power that you’ve had all along and the continuation of decades of collective action. The key word here is collective. We’re in this together. We have the same cause even if our roles differ. We’re one ONA. Most importantly, this brand emphasizes that ONA is a platform for local action. We’re a grassroots movement. It’s how we came to be and how we grow. This is why each of your Locals has their own ONA logo and an action kit with assorted materials to help amplify your cause. It’s time that we show every workplace, every administrator and the government that we are coming. This week been a whirlwind of excitement and tremendous, positive news for our members, Ontario’s labour community and our patients, residents and clients. On Monday, the Ontario Court of Appeal upheld the lower court’s decision ruling that Bill 124 is unconstitutional. ONA is thrilled with this second win for labour unions. The Ford government could have appealed this decision all the way to the Supreme Court of Canada At a labour union press conference Monday afternoon at Queen Park, our President, Erin Ariss – along with our labour siblings from OPSEU and CUPE – urged the Ford government not to appeal for the sake of Ontarians. And the Ford government listened. In a late-breaking news notice Monday night, Ford announced that his government will repeal Bill 124 in its totality. We’ll work together to build a strong team and organize collective actions to ensure you win on your bargaining priorities. At Local 003 we have a little bit of everything: Hospitals, LHINs, Public Health, LTC facilities, and VON. We do not share any information with the CNO and they do not share with us. Update your ONA Member Information Online Hospital Bargaining Updates Updates New Draft Central agreement available on the Hospital tab Register for a Workshop Our workshops – that cover issues that affect all health-care sectors – are thorough and interactive and provides opportunities for members to share their experiences and best practices. The benefits of participating in ONA education are to: Understand how the Collective Agreement and legislation impact your workplace and work life. Develop skills to represent your members in all aspects so that members’ rights are protected and their terms and conditions of employment adhere to the Collective Agreement. Understand ONA’s governance structure at the Bargaining Unit, Local and Provincial levels and to develop skills to enable you to take on leadership roles at all 3 levels. At Local 003, we have budgeted for members to do E-Learning. If you register and take a workshop and send the certificate of completion to your Bargaining Unit President , they will get you a $10 gift card, for each different certificate, up to $50 per member, per year, until the budget is depleted. This is your chance to learn more about your union. The workshops are all broken down into small 5-15 minute videos and there can be 3-6 sessions per workshop to allow you to do a little at a time, until you have time to complete it and print the certificate. The courses are in the process of being updated, so currently the number of workshops is limited. Check back regularly for more being added as they are changed. REMEMBER, this is until the budget runs out.
